Communication Lessons from the Movie ‘Pink’
  1. Message: Have clarity of purpose while working on the message. This movie shows a clear purpose operating at multiple levels. To begin, the director served a strong objective to the audience. The second comes from communication the girls had with all other characters in the movie at various points in the movie. The third would be the communication that they had with each other.
  2. Build Your Credibility: The three protagonists – Minal, Falak and Andrea – built their credibility over a period of three years while staying on rent. People around them had their own observations regarding their lifestyle. This, however, did not deter their honesty and self-worth.
  3. Be Structured: The external forces did their best to bring the girls’ morale down. The girls knew what was in store for them. This did not deter their approach towards the case. The lawyer, Deepak Sachdeva, too was very methodical and structured in his approach to deal with the case.
  4. Timing: Time plays a very important role. From the decision to not to take action against the culprits to the decision of taking up the whole challenge onto themselves reflected the timeliness in the actions. The girls’ stand on the issue got strengthen by their understanding of when to share and with whom.
  5. Haptics: The whole issue emerged out of nothing but inappropriate haptics.
  6. Conversation Skills: No matter how well prepared you are, you cannot take any conversation on the acceptance path unless you convince the other person. In the movie, the lawyer’s (played by Piyush Mishra) arguments fell flat as his proofs constantly fumbled in front of structured questioning by advocate Deepak Sachdeva.
  7. Persuasion Skills: The girls were convinced that they did nothing wrong by hitting out on the guilty. Their transformation from ‘not making the act public’ to ‘going all the way with it’ served as their elevator pitch.
  8. Gender Communication:  Men and Women are biologically different. This difference is also visible in their communication style. Men give more importance to the logic whereas women are more emotions driven. Social norms establish separate rules for both genders. This is also evident from ‘Pink’.
  9. Ethical Communication: The question of right and wrong is quite evident.
  10. Team Spirit: The three girls shared their own space of conflicts with each other under the crisis umbrella. However, the support that they received from others was amazing.
  11. Political Communication: The movie is an apt example of how information spreads and influences politics and policy makers (in this case the social norms base).
And, believe me, this is not all. There is more to this movie.
